Puff, Puff! It's Nothing, Right? WRONG!

As a Concordia student, besides my Specialization and my Major, I also have to take 2 general education courses (one social science and one science). Well, the last one was a toughy: I don't like Biology or Physics, I hate Chemistry, for the Geology course I would've had to pay $200 for a box of stones...as a result, I chose Exercise Science. It also had very good reviews from many of my colleagues, so I thought it should be fun and not affect my GPA (if my GPA dropped, I'd rather that happened because of a course from my program... now, that sounded extremely wrong... let's move on. It's not that much fun, actually. Don't get me wrong: it's a very interesting course, this being the main problem. I've smoked for almost 9 years, and even if I've always been concerned about lung cancer, emphysema or heart disease, I had NO idea what smoking was doing to me. I've been smoke-free for almost 4 months now, but I don't even dare to think of myself as of a healthy person. This course is really, really scary! Out of 5 illnesses the proffesor may discuss, 6 have smoking as a major factor. For God's sake, smoking plays an important role even in kidney disease and diabetes! In the States, tobacco is the leading cause of death (435,000 deaths a year), followed by obesity, with "only" 112,000. I'm suprised that Parkinson's disease and septicemia are not affected by smoking, that would've covered everything. I suppose this course was sent to help me maintain my decision (which is very difficult to do), that is, if I needed more proof. I'm learning new things while turning into a hypochondriac :). It's such an eye-opening course! I'm finally learning how my body functions and what it needs and doesn't need. Do I have to add that Cornel is extremely happy about me taking this course :) ?
Gotta run now...
