Wine Tasting
Yesterday we went to a wine tasting at one of Corneliu's co-workers. Hey, what's up with that?! First the golf game, then the $300 hotel room, now this?! Are we becoming uptight or something? No, I guess we're only turning into classier, more important people... from now on, I have to drink my coffee from tiny cups, holding my pinkie straight up :)) . Too bad I don't like coffee that much... maybe that's a taste I need to start developing :P .
Wait, it gets worse... there was a wine tasting contest. We had to guess the types of wine, the areas they came from and the aromas. I don't know anything about wines, I'm not particularly fond of them, so I was sure I would come in last... not that I really cared, though :) . Well, now it's time to pay attention... out of ten people (nine, actually, without micul, as he is not what you'd call an expert, either) who had all taken wine tasting classes (!!!) and had taken part in many, many similar events, I came in second :))) . It kind of scared me, as I didn't go by guessing, but by what I was actually able to smell/ taste and what I knew from having worked in various restaurants. I'm seriously considering going pro :P .
To be honest, we actually had a great time, and that's what scared me the most :)) . As usual, we were the youngest ones (all the other couples were over fifty or getting close to that age), but we enjoyed the discussion and appreciated the fact that no one was left out (by "no one" I mean us :D, since they all knew each other). There was one point where their faces kind of turned green at finding out that we hadn't had any papers in the States, to put it mildly, but after explaining them the situation and describing the way American economy works (we also had the support of another guest, who knew a bit about these things), they warmed up to us (hey, it is impossible for us to meet new people without having to tell them our history!). I also have to give thumbs up to the host for having served us homemade sushi :D and a great dessert (of course I asked for the recipe!).
We had a few full weekends, but, from now on, I have to settle down and concentrate on my studying... lots of more or less difficult courses and not enough time :( .
Last day of school...let the vacation begin
